A five-year-old lost his life after being hit by a speeding motorcycle along the Moroto–Nakapiripirit highway, highlighting growing concerns about road safety in Karamoja.

 

A five-year-old child, Lomongin Nakwayen, has died following a road accident involving a boda boda rider at Lokapel Junction along the Moroto–Nakapiripirit highway.

Police reports indicate that Nakwayen ran across the road and was struck by a motorcycle ridden by Moses Lomongin. The child sustained severe head injuries and died shortly after the collision.

Karamoja Regional Police Spokesperson Mike Longole confirmed the incident and said the motorcycle, registration number KMFK 745Y, has been impounded.

“The suspect has been arrested as investigations into the crash continue,” Longole said.

Police are urging all motorists, particularly boda boda riders, to exercise caution and adhere to speed limits, especially in trading centers and residential areas where children are likely to cross roads unexpectedly.
